Hesitation, and It’s Warm For Now

Just a reminder: it hasn’t happened yet - I haven’t gotten any comments at all - but this isn’t the place to debate the appropriateness of being shirtless. I’m here to discuss my views on it, so take that shit elsewhere. Thanks!

Seasonal hesitation sort of struck again today. It’s in the mid 70s, and I went and walked on the beach - not a problem:



Drove shirtless - no problem:



Entering businesses? I chickened out.

I did, however, force myself to get gas shirtless:


My hesitation entirely comes from being self-conscious around women. I generally don’t have issues around men, but I feel weird being shirtless around women's, and I don’t know why. It’s the next hurdle, I guess.

Why is this important?

It’s important to me, because I want to get over any shame issues that I may have about my body. I want to show myself off, because it helps my self-esteem. Not only that, as I have said, before, I think, as men, we should be able to. It is the ultimate in (non-toxic) masculinity. It helps define us as men. Plus, it just feels better. 

Why SHOULDN’T we do it? In my opinion, there is no reason. One can be shirtless, and still be fully dressed.

We’ll see what happens next time.

My Shirtless Journey, Continued, and Why Be Shirtless?

 Around my college years, I started dipping my toe into the shirtless water, mostly by driving, especially long distances. It was liberating, to say the least. It also instilled in me the thrill of seeing others drive shirtless. Not just driving/riding, but other modes of transportation as well: There isn't much to tell about me for several years, until I was around 30, when my interest in being shirtless in shops was piqued. One evening, I was in my car, about to go into an Advance Auto Parts store. Through the window was a shirtless boy of probably around 18. He was tall and lanky and wearing a cap and tan pants, and I went into a trance. I wanted that guy, and I wanted to be that guy. I still remember it to this day (20 years ago, probably). That gave me the courage to start trying. I discovered that auto parts stores generally don't care if you're shirtless. So, that's what I did. In the store: In a liquor store: I superimposed Hunter Hayes's face here: Sweaty guy at car show - outdoor events should be a no-brainer: Ginger in a liquor store: Father and son, or uncle or nephew, or whatever configuration: Clearly, I have a type.
